"If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement, and mystery of the world we live in.” — Rachel Carson

Run! Explore! Jump! Create! Dig! Discover! Play! Learn!
Hands-on exploration for active learners from 2 to 5 years old.
Our students learn by doing, and nature provides the inspiration, teaching materials, and subject matter. On any given day, our preschoolers might be taking a trail walk and searching for wildlife or listening to a story about their favorite animals. They might be digging for insects on the playground or unearthing dinosaur “bones” in the sand table. They might be planting vegetable seeds in our garden or building with "tree cookies." They might be building a snowperson or singing songs about winter. They might be sorting different types of pine cones, creating patterns with leaves or learning about the habitat of one of our resident teaching animals.
We nurture our students’ natural curiosity though age-appropriate activities that help them develop the cognitive, social, physical, emotional and creative skills they will need to succeed in elementary school and, ultimately, in life. We lovingly encourage them to appreciate and respect nature and one another.
While helping children build connections with nature and their peers, we also work toward forming a supportive, nurturing community among our students, teachers and parents. We welcome contact and communication, both formal and informal, with our families throughout the school year. We are also committed to parent education. For interested parents, we offer a number of parent workshops throughout the year to help them better understand and support their children’s development.
All of us at Earthplace are proud to have earned the mark of quality from NAEYC and to be recognized for our commitment to reaching and maintaining the highest professional standards. We are happy to show prospective parents what a unique school we have at Earthplace.
